Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has urged the Election Commission of India to specify the number of illegal Bangladeshi or Rohingya infiltrators among the 58.20 lakh voters removed from West Bengal’s draft voters’ list. Banerjee criticized the BJP for allegedly using the Election Commission to trouble West Bengal residents due to their lack of electoral progress in the state.
He raised concerns over the deaths of 65 individuals in West Bengal, including some booth-level officers, during the revision exercise initiated in November. Banerjee questioned the accountability for these deaths and the reasons behind the distress caused by the revision process in the state.
Accusing BJP Lok Sabha member Sukanta Majumdar of neglecting responsibility towards two migrant workers from Balurghat who were mistreated in Maharashtra, Banerjee emphasized the role of politicians in serving the people. He challenged Majumdar to demonstrate his contributions to the constituency’s development and questioned his silence on the incident involving the migrant workers.
Banerjee highlighted the discrimination faced by Bengali-speaking individuals, pointing out that the two workers were targeted in Maharashtra solely based on their language. He provocatively suggested that since Majumdar also speaks Bengali, he could be considered a Bangladeshi as well.
