Actor Shahbaz Khan disclosed that he was instrumental in bringing the late actor Irrfan Khan into the fantasy series, “Chandrakanta”. While working together on “The Great Maratha”, Shahbaz persuaded Irrfan to join the cast of “Chandrakanta”. Initially hesitant, Irrfan eventually agreed after Shahbaz convinced him, emphasizing the show’s grandeur and quality.
Shahbaz expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with Irrfan Khan, highlighting their work dynamics on the show. In “Chandrakanta”, Shahbaz portrayed Kunwar Virendra Vikram Singh, while Irrfan played the roles of twin brothers Badrinath and Somnath. The series, created and directed by Nirja Guleri, originally aired on DD National from 1994 to 1996.
Following his graduation from NSD in 1987, Irrfan Khan embarked on his acting journey with a minor role in Mira Nair’s “Salaam Bombay!”. His breakthrough as a lead actor came in 2005 with “Rog”, marking the beginning of a successful career in Bollywood. Irrfan went on to deliver acclaimed performances in various films, including “The Namesake”, “Hindi Medium”, “Paan Singh Tomar”, and “Slumdog Millionaire”.
