DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan stated that the ongoing discord within the AIADMK stems from Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s apprehension about potential leadership challenges if former senior party members are reintegrated. The internal strife has escalated, with factional disputes spreading to various district units in Tamil Nadu, prompting police involvement in multiple locations.
The clash between supporters of AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) and a rival faction led by former Ministers S.P. Velumani and C.Ve. Shanmugham has evolved into a struggle for control over the organization. Party offices in several districts have been locked and placed under police protection due to mounting tensions.
EPS has accused the rebel faction of prioritizing personal aspirations for ministerial positions over the party’s unity and stability. Elangovan highlighted that Palaniswami’s reluctance to reintegrate former senior leaders reflects a leadership weakness that has contributed to the current divisions.
Actor Rajinikanth’s congratulatory message to actor-turned-politician Vijay post the Assembly election results also drew attention. Rajinikanth clarified that his recent meeting with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was personal and not politically motivated, emphasizing their longstanding friendship beyond political boundaries.
Elangovan addressed criticisms raised by actor Vishal and others regarding Chief Minister Vijay’s allocation of the Film Industry portfolio to Minister Rajmohan. He defended the decision, stating the importance of appointing ministers with industry knowledge to enhance the film sector, which might explain the discontent.
