Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah spoke at a Cooperative Conference organized by Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO) in Panchkula. The event focused on the ‘Role of Cooperation in Sustainable Agriculture’ and was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other dignitaries. Shah highlighted the importance of collaboration between agriculture and cooperatives in enhancing farmers’ prosperity.
Shah inaugurated various initiatives at the conference, including a Milk chilling center, Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) flour mill, and distribution of RuPay Platinum Card. He emphasized that a significant portion of India’s population relies on agriculture and related activities for their livelihood, stressing the employment potential of these sectors.
The Minister pointed out that when agriculture and animal husbandry are integrated with cooperation, they not only create employment opportunities for millions but also contribute to their prosperity. Shah cited the success of Amul in Gujarat, where cooperation has significantly increased the income of milk producers compared to market prices. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on cooperation for enhancing prosperity in these sectors.
Shah outlined the government’s efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, including measures to increase farmers’ income through soil health, water security, and market access. He highlighted the shift towards sustainable farming practices and the significant budgetary allocations for agriculture and rural development under the current administration. The Minister underscored the importance of ensuring that the benefits of agricultural and animal husbandry produce reach the farmers.
