Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated in the Lok Sabha that the suicide case of a Punjab government official allegedly linked to harassment falls under the state government’s jurisdiction. However, Shah expressed willingness to transfer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if Punjab’s Members of Parliament formally request it.
During the Lok Sabha discussion, Shah emphasized that the issue is within Punjab’s domain but assured that he would facilitate a CBI investigation upon receiving a written demand from the state’s MPs. He urged all Punjab MPs to submit a formal request for transferring the case to the CBI.
The discussion arose following the suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, a District Manager at the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation. Subsequently, Punjab Police filed a case against former Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and two others in connection with the incident.
Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu welcomed the proposal for a potential CBI inquiry, advocating for unity among political parties in seeking justice for the deceased official. Bittu highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, and BJP in addressing the issue and holding individuals accountable.
