Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called on voters to back the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), emphasizing the party’s commitment to empowering women in the state. Sarma highlighted the transformative impact of a single vote in strengthening women’s voices within households and society. He stressed the significance of public engagement in the democratic process, urging voters to make informed choices in the upcoming elections.
The Chief Minister underscored the BJP’s dedication to women’s empowerment, stating that the party’s policies in Assam are geared towards bolstering ‘Nari Shakti’ or women power. Sarma affirmed the government’s unwavering resolve to ensure that women benefit from developmental programs and welfare schemes in the years ahead. He encouraged voters to carefully consider their decision and support the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
Under the BJP-led administration, Assam has introduced various women-centric welfare initiatives aimed at enhancing financial security and fostering entrepreneurship among women statewide. The Orunodoi scheme, a flagship program, provides monthly cash transfers of Rs 1,250 to over 19 lakh economically disadvantaged women. This initiative is designed to empower women in household decision-making and improve their access to essential resources.
Additionally, the government launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) to promote entrepreneurship among rural women by offering seed capital and institutional backing, with a goal of benefiting up to 12 lakh women. Another scheme, the Lakhpati Baideo program, supports women in Self Help Groups (SHGs) by providing financial assistance over three years to help establish sustainable micro-enterprises and boost their income.
Political analysts note the rising influence of women voters in Assam, prompting major parties to prioritize policies and campaigns focused on women’s welfare and empowerment. The BJP leadership in the state consistently emphasizes the pivotal role of women in driving social and economic progress, showcasing government initiatives as part of their pre-election outreach efforts.
