Counting of votes in Assam’s elections shows a strong lead for the BJP-led NDA, according to State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu. The NDA is currently ahead in 101 out of 126 Assembly seats, surpassing the 100-mark. In contrast, the Congress-led opposition alliance is leading in 24 seats.
Pegu criticized the Congress for spreading misinformation and praised voters for choosing development-focused governance. He highlighted the electorate’s rejection of Congress’ traditional vote-bank politics. The election results reflect a preference for growth, infrastructure development, and welfare initiatives in Assam.
The Assembly elections, held on April 9, saw a high voter turnout of 85.96% from over 2.50 crore eligible voters. A total of 722 candidates contested, including 59 women candidates. The Congress and BJP fielded 99 and 90 candidates, respectively, with other parties like AIUDF, Asom Gana Parishad, and Bodo Peoples’ Front also in the fray.
