Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government allocated more than Rs 176 crore in 2025-26 to aid students pursuing higher education through two key assistance programs. The Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Aasoni and Mukhya Mantri Nijut Babu Aasoni schemes were instrumental in providing financial aid to deserving students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their educational pursuits.
The Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Aasoni scheme supported 2,00,727 students during the mentioned period, with a total disbursement of Rs 167.05 crore. Similarly, the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Babu Aasoni scheme assisted 49,438 beneficiaries with a total support amount of Rs 9.78 crore. Collectively, these initiatives benefited over 2.5 lakh students, surpassing a total financial aid of Rs 176 crore.
These schemes aim to offer financial assistance to eligible students, fostering a more inclusive higher education environment, especially for economically disadvantaged families. The Assam government has consistently emphasized education as a crucial element of its human resource development strategy, implementing measures to enhance enrollment rates, reduce dropouts, and encourage students to pursue advanced studies.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted that investments in education are pivotal in nurturing a skilled and educated generation capable of driving Assam’s long-term economic progress and social advancement. He affirmed the government’s commitment to bolstering educational infrastructure and expanding student welfare programs as part of its policy agenda.
