Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that the state is on track to become a power surplus region, with significant investments being made to fortify the energy infrastructure and ensure a steady electricity supply. The state has set a target of Rs 14,202 crore by 2035 for energy infrastructure and is presently executing four major projects valued at Rs 6,235 crore across Assam.
The Chief Minister emphasized the state’s progress towards achieving power surplus status, stating that the substantial investments in energy infrastructure will bolster growth and guarantee a reliable power supply for the residents. Assam is focusing on enhancing generation capacity, upgrading transmission networks, and modernizing distribution systems to meet the escalating electricity demand in urban and rural areas.
Officials highlighted the government’s emphasis on renewable energy ventures, such as solar power projects, as part of Assam’s long-term energy security and sustainability strategy. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance the efficiency of hydropower and thermal power projects to augment the overall supply capacity and support industrial growth, infrastructure development, and an improved quality of life across the state.
