Assam Rifles seized methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 33.18 crore after apprehending a drug peddler in Mizoram. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint operation with Mizoram Police led to the recovery of 11.062 kg of the psychotropic substance near the India-Myanmar border. The seized contraband and the suspect were handed over to Mizoram Police for further investigation under the NDPS Act 1985.
The drug peddler, identified as Hasan Ali from Assam, was caught during the operation. Methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, are a banned substance in India due to their harmful effects. Assam Rifles’ swift action demonstrates their commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring peace in the region. Mizoram shares unfenced borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, making it susceptible to smuggling activities.
The operation in Saitual district highlights the ongoing efforts to protect Mizoram’s youth from the dangers of narcotics. Assam Rifles’ vigilance in curbing drug trafficking activities is crucial for maintaining security in the region. The seized tablets, a mix of methamphetamine and caffeine, are commonly referred to as the ‘crazy drug’ and are popular in certain circles for their stimulant effects.
