In response to reports of severe injuries caused by Chinese kite string, known as ‘manja’, the Bhopal Police Commissioner has imposed a strict ban within city limits. The ban, effective immediately, prohibits the use, sale, purchase, and storage of Chinese manja in Bhopal’s metropolitan area. This action aims to prevent accidents and safeguard public safety, especially during kite-flying seasons like Makar Sankranti.

Chinese manja, often coated with glass or metal powder, is infamous for causing deep cuts, particularly to motorists and pedestrians. The abrasive string poses risks to both humans and wildlife, leading to serious injuries and entanglement of animals. Authorities are urging citizens to comply with the ban and opt for safer, cotton-based kite strings instead. Public cooperation is essential, with authorities requesting immediate reports to police regarding any violations of the ban.

The ban on Chinese manja is part of efforts to address the dangers posed by synthetic kite strings, which have been a persistent hazard despite previous enforcement actions. Similar bans have been implemented in the past, typically before festive seasons involving widespread kite flying. By prohibiting Chinese manja completely, the Bhopal Police aim to ensure safer celebrations and prevent tragic incidents. Citizens are reminded that traditional kite strings offer a safer alternative for enjoyable kite flying experiences.
