Vote counting for the West Bengal Assembly elections is ongoing, with BJP leaders expressing optimism about the outcome. State BJP in-charge Mangal Pandey highlighted the public’s desire for development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. State BJP chief Samik Battacharya also affirmed the certainty of a BJP government formation in the state.
The counting process for the two-phase Assembly polls in West Bengal began at 8 a.m. on Monday, with postal ballots being counted first. The Election Commission of India has introduced changes this time, with the counting of postal ballots occurring for the initial 30 minutes before simultaneous counting with EVM votes. This adjustment aims to provide a clearer trend in the election results by noon.
The electoral battle in West Bengal primarily involves the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP. In the previous elections, Trinamool Congress secured 216 seats, with the BJP at 77 and AISF at one. The Left Front and Congress aim to make a mark this time, contesting independently after a failed alliance in the last elections.
The two-phase Assembly polls held on April 23 and April 29 witnessed a high voter turnout of nearly 93 percent. Exit polls suggest a potential shift in power from Trinamool Congress to the BJP in West Bengal.
