Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA Alexander Laloo Hek announced that the BJP will independently participate in the 2028 Meghalaya Assembly elections. Hek expressed confidence in the party’s ability to lead the state government in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to the media, Hek highlighted the BJP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its organizational structure and expand its grassroots presence in Meghalaya. He emphasized that the party is focused on building support and gearing up for the electoral battle in the coming years.
Hek also mentioned the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, stating that although the party had approached him to contest, he declined due to his current legislative and ministerial responsibilities. Instead, he recommended fellow BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai as the party’s candidate for the bypoll.
Asserting that the BJP will provide full support to the chosen candidate, Hek expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming by-election. The BJP is currently part of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
