The city president of BJP Yuva Morcha in Varanasi, Rajat Jaiswal, has reported receiving death threats through international calls, emails, and social media. This comes after he raised concerns about non-vegetarian leftovers being thrown into the Ganga river during an Iftar event. Jaiswal mentioned receiving an international call in Pakistani Punjabi and an email from individuals wanting to debate with him.
Jaiswal disclosed that he has also faced abusive messages and death threats on social media platforms. Despite police offering security, he declined the protection. Following the threats, Jaiswal lodged a complaint with the authorities, who have pledged full cooperation in addressing the issue.
Police have initiated an investigation to track down the origins of the international calls and emails containing threats. The controversy began when Jaiswal filed a complaint about non-vegetarian food being consumed and leftovers being discarded into the Ganga during an Iftar gathering on a boat. Subsequently, 14 youths linked to the event were arrested and remanded in judicial custody until April 1.
