The Congress party has named Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the Chairperson of the Screening Committee for Assam in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections. This move highlights the party’s focus on the northeastern state, known for its intricate electoral landscape. The Screening Committee, which includes Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Imran Masood, and Sirivella Prasad, will be responsible for selecting candidates and conducting internal discussions before the polls.
In addition to Assam, Screening Committees have been established for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and West Bengal. Madhusudan Mistry will lead the Kerala committee, while T.S. Singh Deo will head the committees for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. B.K. Hariprasad has been appointed as the Chairperson for West Bengal. These committees will play a crucial role in candidate selection and strategic planning for the Congress party in the upcoming elections.
The AICC has specified that General Secretaries/In-charges, PCC Presidents, CLP Leaders, and AICC Secretaries will serve as ex officio members of the Screening Committees in their respective states. These appointments signal a significant phase in the party’s preparations for the impending elections, with experienced leaders entrusted to guide candidate selection and internal strategies in key battlegrounds.
