Congress Lok Sabha member Imran Masood expressed strong support for party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a potential Prime Ministerial candidate, comparing her to former PM Indira Gandhi. Masood defended Priyanka Gandhi against BJP criticism for her alleged silence on minority violence in Bangladesh.
He highlighted Priyanka Gandhi’s leadership qualities, likening them to her grandmother’s, and emphasized her ability to counter anti-India narratives. Masood suggested that making Priyanka Gandhi the Prime Minister would showcase her capabilities, drawing parallels to Indira Gandhi’s decisive actions.
When questioned about Rahul Gandhi’s role if Priyanka Gandhi assumes the PM position, Masood emphasized the unity between the siblings, stating they are like two sides of the same coin. He underscored their shared lineage with Indira Gandhi, portraying them as a cohesive force within the Congress party.
The Congress party has traditionally projected Rahul Gandhi as its key contender for the Prime Minister’s role. Masood’s remarks come amidst ongoing discussions within the opposition regarding leadership and strategic approaches. Priyanka Gandhi has recently taken on a more prominent role in the absence of her brother, Rahul Gandhi, garnering attention for her assertive stance in parliamentary debates.
