Senior Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, Dhubri MP, announced that the Congress party will soon finalize appointments for key positions in the Assam Legislative Assembly. This decision will follow consultations with party legislators and AICC leaders. Hussain emphasized the party’s commitment to democratic processes and collective leadership in selecting roles like Leader of Opposition and Deputy Leader.
The appointment process involves AICC observers gathering input from every MLA before reaching a decision within the next few days. Hussain clarified that any delay in appointing the opposition leader is procedural and not indicative of internal divisions within the Congress Legislature Party. He highlighted the party’s acceptance of the people’s mandate to the NDA government in Assam and its responsibility as the Opposition.
Expressing concerns over escalating prices of essential goods, petrol, and cooking gas, Hussain criticized the impact of inflation on the public post-election. He pointed out the challenges faced by small businesses, eateries, and consumers due to gas shortages and reduced purchasing power. Hussain also questioned recent calls for austerity measures amid rising prices, urging the government to address inflation promptly.
