Hundreds of Congress workers in Punjab protested in Chandigarh against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party government for failing to fulfill their commitments to the people. The party highlighted the unfulfilled promise of providing Rs 1,000 monthly to women and demanded payment with four years of arrears. They criticized the government for its overall failure, especially in maintaining law and order and the state’s economy.

The Congress had planned to ‘gherao’ the Vidhan Sabha on the first day of the Budget Session, with party workers gathering outside the Congress Bhawan before heading towards the Vidhan Sabha. However, the police detained them and blocked their path to the heavily guarded Assembly.

State Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, addressing the workers, criticized the government and Chief Minister for their complete failure, noting the state’s debt exceeding Rs 4 lakh crore and likely to rise to Rs 4.17 lakh crore soon. He highlighted the misuse of funds by the Aam Aadmi Party for election campaigns in other states, emphasizing the lack of infrastructure development despite substantial spending on advertisements.

Warring reiterated the unmet promises of a monthly stipend for women, revival of the old-pension scheme, pending dearness allowance, and the unfulfilled revenue generation claims from sand mining. He emphasized that after four years of AAP’s governance, the people of Punjab are demanding accountability.
