The death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma at her matrimonial home in Bhopal has sparked controversy over allegations of dowry harassment and institutional influence. Twisha, a former actor and model from Noida, was found dead at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area, just six months after marrying advocate Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. An FIR has been filed against Samarth and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, under dowry death and harassment laws.
Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by Additional Sessions Judge Pallavi Dwivedi, who deemed the allegations serious, given the suspicious circumstances of Twisha’s death within six months of marriage. The court highlighted witness statements, the FIR, and WhatsApp chats that pointed towards Samarth, leading to the denial of bail.
Police are currently searching for Samarth Singh, who has been on the run since the incident, with a reward of Rs 10,000 announced for information leading to his arrest. Meanwhile, Giribala Singh, who holds a prominent position in the judiciary, had earlier obtained anticipatory bail.
Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, has raised concerns about the investigation being compromised due to the accused family’s influential connections. He has approached the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, seeking intervention to ensure a fair probe and requesting the suspension of Giribala Singh from her duties during the investigation.
The circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death are disputed, with the defense claiming she was found hanging from an iron rod on the terrace using an exercise band. However, Twisha’s family alleges sustained mental and physical harassment over dowry demands, including pressure to terminate her pregnancy and assault, leading to her tragic death.
