Cricket Ireland has confirmed that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old cricket prodigy, will have a separate dressing room arrangement during India’s T20I series in Ireland. This step ensures compliance with child safeguarding policies and UK laws. Sooryavanshi will have access to the main team dressing room for meetings and discussions but will change in a separate room.
The move comes after the England and Wales Cricket Board announced similar arrangements for Sooryavanshi during the upcoming T20I series in England. The ECB emphasized the importance of safeguarding procedures and assured that Sooryavanshi’s parents will accompany him throughout the tour.
In a bid to provide extra care, Sooryavanshi’s parents will stay with him in the team hotels throughout the UK tour, with expenses covered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. These measures aim to ensure the young player’s well-being and support during his international debut in Ireland and England.
Distinct arrangements like these are common in European sports for underage athletes. Sooryavanshi, who has experience playing in domestic and IPL cricket, is set to make history by becoming India’s youngest men’s international cricket debutant.
