The death toll resulting from the two powerful earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 24 has now reached 2,295, with more than 11,000 individuals sustaining injuries. Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez provided this update, stating that a total of 12,841 people have been affected by the earthquakes. International and local rescue teams have successfully saved 6,461 individuals in the aftermath of the disaster.
Authorities are actively managing 25 temporary camps, with the largest numbers located in La Guaira and Caracas. Rodriguez, who oversees the establishment of these camps, urged health workers, security personnel, and firefighters to register on the Patria platform to assist in addressing housing issues caused by the earthquakes. Venezuela has experienced 782 aftershocks since June 24, although their frequency and intensity have diminished.
Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, has declared a seven-day period of national mourning to honor the victims of the catastrophic earthquakes that struck the nation. Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, she emphasized solidarity with those affected and pledged support for their well-being. The country mourns the loss of lives and the devastation caused by the earthquakes, as stated by Rodriguez.
