The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has sought building plan records from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the past five years. Initial findings show that around 70% of cases did not pay the Infrastructure Fund Charge (IFC), with outstanding dues ranging from Rs. 20 crore to Rs. 50 crore for about 300 properties, totaling an estimated Rs. 2,000 crore in government revenue.
The DJB is now examining buildings over 3,000 square meters separately and has requested records spanning a decade. Non-payment of IFC dues may result in actions like sealing of premises or auctions. Delhi Water Minister Pravesh Verma emphasized that strict legal actions will be taken against offenders, with opportunities provided for explanations.
A probe is underway to identify instances where building plans were approved without IFC payments using irregular documentation. Concurrently, the ruling BJP’s strength in the MCD increased to 139 councillors after the Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP) merged with the BJP, led by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and city unit president Harsh Malhotra.
Chief Minister Gupta welcomed the 16 new BJP councillors, assuring them of respect and opportunities within the party. She promised residents the benefits of Delhi’s development initiatives under the “triple-engine government.”
