Delhi Police have successfully uncovered a self-staged robbery amounting to Rs 37.5 lakh within 24 hours of the incident. The robbery involved two employees of an advertising and newspaper publishing company conspiring with others to stage the crime while transporting cash collected from clients.
Three individuals, identified as Abhishek (26), Yogesh (26), and Vipin (29), have been apprehended in connection with the case. The police have managed to recover nearly the entire stolen amount, totaling Rs 36.92 lakh, along with four mobile phones and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the robbery.
The incident unfolded when a bag containing Rs 37.5 lakh was reported stolen near Burari Flyover on Outer Ring Road following a PCR call on July 9. The complainant, Mohan Dass, along with his colleagues Abhishek and Yogesh, had collected the cash for delivery to their employer’s residence. Suspicion arose during the investigation as inconsistencies emerged in the statements provided by the employees.
Further scrutiny, including the analysis of CCTV footage and call records, led to the unraveling of the fabricated story. Abhishek and Yogesh eventually confessed to orchestrating the robbery in collaboration with Vipin, who was subsequently arrested in Jahangir Puri while attempting to flee.
The accused disclosed that the robbery was premeditated, with the trio recruiting additional associates to carry out the crime after identifying the cash collection route. Investigations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the conspiracy.
