The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in various Uttarakhand districts from July 11 to July 14. The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has advised all district administrations to be on high alert due to potential weather-related incidents. Garhwal and Kumaon divisions are expected to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning, raising concerns about landslides and disruptions to normal life.
The SEOC has instructed district authorities to stay vigilant and be prepared for any emergencies caused by adverse weather conditions. Specific districts like Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, and others are likely to face isolated heavy rainfall on July 11, with risks of landslides and road disruptions in hilly areas and waterlogging in plains. Transportation has been impacted, with road blockages due to landslides and debris, though restoration work has been undertaken to clear key routes.
In Pauri Garhwal, landslides were reported, and a truck carrying vegetables was damaged by a boulder. However, no casualties were reported, and restoration efforts have reopened blocked routes. Traffic has resumed on various national highways after debris clearance, with safety measures strengthened along the Char Dham Yatra route due to continuous rainfall. The Ganga River’s water level has risen significantly in Rishikesh, nearing the warning mark.
Severe weather conditions are expected on July 12 in several districts, prompting intensified surveillance along pilgrimage routes. The IMD has issued advisories for potential hazards like landslides, rising water levels, and thunderstorms, affecting road connectivity and electricity supply. Authorities are closely monitoring vulnerable areas and may restrict traffic temporarily for pilgrim safety. The SEOC has urged district magistrates to be on alert, pre-position machinery at risk points, and respond promptly to emergencies.
The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather, steer clear of risky areas, and follow official advisories. With the Char Dham Yatra ongoing, surveillance along pilgrimage routes has been heightened to ensure pilgrim safety.
