In a significant development, the Delhi Police Crime Branch apprehended a proclaimed offender, Atonu Halder alias Atul Halder (23), who had been on the run for over two years. Halder, a resident of Sarita Vihar, Delhi, was captured in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, related to a murder case registered in 2023 at Sarita Vihar Police Station.

The case, registered under various sections of the IPC, stemmed from an incident where a group of individuals, including the accused, brutally attacked a man with knives and sticks, resulting in his death. Despite efforts to seek refuge, the victim succumbed to his injuries, sparking shock in the locality. While six co-accused were previously arrested, Halder had managed to evade capture and was declared a proclaimed offender.

After extensive technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, the police traced Halder to Gandhinagar. A specialized team, led by Inspector Mahipal and comprising several officers, successfully apprehended Halder, who disclosed his movements across different states to evade arrest. His arrest is hailed as a significant breakthrough in the case, showcasing the relentless efforts of the Crime Branch team.

During interrogation, Halder confessed to joining the attack following an alleged assault on his mother, leading him into criminal activities. Despite his education up to Class 8, Halder had been working as a store helper in Gujarat, emphasizing the influence of negative associations during his time in Delhi. His arrest underscores the dedication and coordination of the Crime Branch in pursuing justice.
