Three doctors at the Rajpur Community Health Centre in Indore were apprehended accepting bribes in a sting operation by the Lokayukta Police. The doctors were allegedly demanding kickbacks from a private pathology laboratory in return for directing patients for tests. This unethical practice has raised concerns about corruption in government healthcare institutions.
The Lokayukta police acted on a complaint and set up a trap operation after verifying the allegations. Dr. Amit Shakya was caught taking Rs 8,000, Dr. Divya Sai Rs 5,000, and Dr. Manohar Godara Rs 12,000 in bribes during the operation. The complainant had reported that the doctors were consistently sending patients to a specific lab and pressuring them to undergo tests there.
Following the sting operation, the Lokayukta officials seized the bribe money and initiated legal proceedings against the three doctors under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused face charges under relevant sections of the law, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the extent of such practices and potential involvement of others in the network.
The incident sheds light on corruption and unethical practices in parts of the public healthcare system in Madhya Pradesh, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to curb such malpractices.
