A drug trafficker from Punjab’s Fazilka has been sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 4 lakh for carrying 4.235 kg of heroin in three plastic bottles concealed in his backpack over three years ago. Arvind Saroye, a resident of Phillaur in Jalandhar, was apprehended near the India-Pakistan border at Jodhawala in Fazilka on June 21, 2022.
The Special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Court in Fazilka, under the supervision of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), pronounced the sentence on Saroye on Wednesday. The arrest followed specific intelligence received by security agencies, prompting swift action by the NCB in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) to intercept the drug trafficker.
Saroye was found with the contraband after a thorough search of his backpack at Jodhawala in Fazilka, with the discovery made in the presence of independent witnesses. The seized heroin, weighing 4.235 kg, led to the legal proceedings resulting in the stringent sentence and monetary penalty imposed on the offender.
