The Election Commission of India has designated 10 senior IAS officers in Odisha as Electoral Roll Observers to oversee the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll in the state. The qualifying date for the revision has been set as July 1. These officers are tasked with visiting their assigned districts at least three times during the revision process to monitor the progress.
The observers, as per a notification by Additional Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Special Secretary Sushanta Kumar Mishra, are responsible for various districts in the state. They are required to inspect polling stations in different Assembly constituencies and engage with sitting MPs, MLAs, and political party representatives to address grievances and involve them in the revision process.
In cases where voter addition or deletion rates exceed specified limits, the observers will scrutinize reports and reasons submitted by District Election Officers. Following their field visits and assessments, detailed reports will be submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha. The CEO emphasizes the importance of ensuring the inclusion of all eligible voters, exclusion of ineligible ones, and conducting the process transparently.
