The Enforcement Directorate has filed a supplementary charge sheet against former Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Santanu Sinha Biswas. He, along with land mafia Biswajit Poddar alias Sona Pappu and real-estate promoter Jay Kamdar, is accused of illegal land grabbing in and around Kolkata involving Rs 50 crore. All three are currently in judicial custody after being successively arrested earlier this year by ED officials.
The charges against Biswas include misusing his authority and pressuring landowners to sell their properties at low prices for real estate development. The ED’s initial findings suggest that Sinha Biswas personally gained around Rs 3 crore from this illegal activity. The charge sheet also alleges that Poddar, Kamdar, and Biswas conspired together to grab land.
The ED has recovered WhatsApp chats between Kamdar and Sinha Biswas, providing crucial evidence. Sinha Biswas was arrested on May 14 after being on the run for a significant period. His sons were also questioned by the ED earlier. Additionally, the ED is probing his suspected involvement in a multi-crore illegal sand mining case in West Bengal.
