England captain Ben Stokes has expressed his unwavering support for head coach Brendon McCullum as they face the final Test of the Ashes 2025-26 series at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Despite the series loss, Stokes emphasized the importance of their partnership and the need to address shortcomings together.
Stokes affirmed his confidence in McCullum, stating that he values their collaboration and envisions no one else leading the team to greater success. He acknowledged the defeat in the Ashes and highlighted the necessity for the coach-captain duo to strategize on overcoming challenges.
Brendon McCullum assumed the role of England’s men’s Test team coach in May 2022, expanding his responsibilities to include the white-ball teams from January 2025. Known for initiating the Bazball era, McCullum’s tenure as the all-format coach commenced in 2025, aiming to elevate the Test side’s performance.
Under the leadership of Stokes and McCullum, England initially achieved remarkable success, winning 10 out of their first 11 Tests. However, their recent performance has been inconsistent, with 16 wins, 16 losses, and two draws in the last 34 Tests. Notably, they have struggled to secure victories in significant five-Test series against Australia or India.
With Australia leading 3-1 in the ongoing Ashes series, England aims to conclude on a positive note in the upcoming match starting on January 4th at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
