Former Mumbai Congress chief and party legislator Bhai Jagtap received a show-cause notice from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for publicly calling for the resignation of Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaikwad. Jagtap expressed concern over the party’s performance in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, where Congress secured 24 seats, a decrease from its previous tally of 31 in 2017.
Bhai Jagtap attributed the party’s poor performance to Gaikwad, stating that the situation was unprecedentedly dire. He urged the leadership in Delhi to intervene and address the party’s challenges. According to Jagtap, there is a leadership crisis within the Mumbai Congress, emphasizing that the city chief should step down to take responsibility for the organization’s current state.
Jagtap criticized the selection process of candidates in Mumbai, alleging that decisions were based on reports prepared by the Mumbai Congress chief. He insisted that Gaikwad should be held accountable for these decisions. In response to Jagtap’s remarks, AICC General Secretary Ramesh Chennithala issued a show-cause notice, emphasizing that internal party matters should not be aired in public.
