Amid the LPG shortage, a video capturing a gas cylinder theft incident in Jaipur, Rajasthan, has gone viral on social media. The footage shows alert locals chasing and apprehending one of the thieves after their scooty skidded during the escape.
Eyewitnesses reported that one youth stood watch outside while the other entered a house and brought out the stolen cylinder. The duo then placed the LPG cylinder on their scooty and attempted to flee the scene. However, their escape was foiled when the scooty lost control in a narrow lane, causing them to fall along with the cylinder.
Locals seized the opportunity and chased the thieves. While one managed to escape on the scooty, the other, identified as Rohit (19) from Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, was caught after a brief pursuit. Rohit, who was residing near Lalkothi Sabzi Mandi in Jaipur, confessed to committing the theft at the instigation of another person for monetary gain.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Sanjeev Nain confirmed the arrest and handover of the accused to Bajaj Nagar Police. Authorities are now searching for the absconding accomplice. The theft occurred on a Sunday morning in Jaipur’s Barkat Nagar, raising concerns amidst the ongoing gas shortage in Rajasthan.
A similar incident was recently reported in Alwar, where miscreants stole an LPG cylinder in broad daylight, emphasizing a troubling trend during the gas crisis in the state.
