The Central government has assigned 1,452 kilolitres of kerosene to Gujarat for the year 2025-26 due to energy supply concerns amid global geopolitical tensions. The allocation aims at facilitating cooking and lighting, with distribution initiated to rural Antyodaya and PHH families in tribal districts.

Each district in Gujarat will receive 36 KL of kerosene under the supervision of the Collector and the District Supply Officer to oversee the distribution process. Families will be provided with five liters each, while institutions will receive 25 liters. The kerosene will be distributed in larger quantities based on the demand from each district.

To ensure equitable distribution, priority has been set to reach those most in need, including rural families, residents in remote areas, school hostels, institutions under the ‘Mid-Day Meal Scheme’, old-age homes, community kitchens, and various service institutions. Workers in construction and industrial sectors using kerosene for meal preparation, as well as institutions solely dependent on LPG, are also covered under the allocation.

The state government has assured the public of sufficient stocks of petrol, diesel, and LPG. Guidelines have been issued to regulate cylinder bookings, with a gap of 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural regions to streamline the process and reduce online system load. Citizens are encouraged to conserve cooking gas through various means like using pressure cookers, steaming vegetables, and exploring alternative energy sources such as solar cookers.

Additionally, energy conservation practices at home, like maintaining air conditioning temperatures at 25°C or above, are recommended. The government also urges the public to opt for public transport and shared travel whenever feasible to optimize petrol and diesel usage. In a separate development, establishments in areas with city gas pipelines can now swiftly apply for new PNG connections, as announced by the state government during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
