The government announced that within the first two days of launching a new feature on the Aadhaar App, more than 2.5 lakh residents updated their email IDs in Aadhaar. This initiative by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows residents to conveniently add or update their email IDs directly through the app, eliminating the need to visit a physical centre.
Effective from July 1, 2026, this service is provided free of cost through the Aadhaar App for a six-month period. The Ministry of Electronics & IT emphasized that this service aims to simplify the process of keeping Aadhaar information current, aligning with the Digital India vision and the goal of a Viksit Bharat.
By linking their email IDs with Aadhaar, residents can now receive real-time email alerts for any Aadhaar authentication requests. This feature not only enhances transparency but also provides an additional layer of security by keeping users informed about the use of their identity credentials.
The new Aadhaar App offers a user-friendly interface for various Aadhaar-related services on smartphones. In addition to email updates, residents can also conveniently update their mobile numbers and addresses using the app. So far, over 40 lakh individuals have updated their mobile numbers, and around 10 lakh residents have updated their addresses through the Aadhaar App.
UIDAI encourages residents to make use of this new email update feature by downloading or updating the Aadhaar App, available on Android and Apple iOS platforms.
