Gujarat has reported significant progress in tuberculosis (TB) detection and treatment, achieving 94% of the target set by NITI Aayog. The state’s clinical recovery rate stands at 91.74%, with 1,31,801 TB patients identified and registered in 2025, out of a target of 1,40,000. Among them, 1,25,301 patients received active treatment, and 1,21,912 completed their treatment successfully with continuous medical follow-up.
The state’s efforts in the National TB Elimination Campaign have been commendable, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘TB-Free India’. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, Gujarat has made strides in meeting TB registration and treatment targets. Recognizing the challenges of long-duration treatment, the government highlighted the financial burden that often leads patients to discontinue treatment midway.
In response to this issue, the government provided financial assistance through the ‘Nikshay Poshan Yojana’, disbursing a total of Rs 49.10 crore to 92,921 TB patients in 2025. Each patient received Rs 1,000 per month to ensure proper nutrition during the treatment period. Moreover, the state has emphasized community participation by integrating healthcare support with public involvement, registering a total of 31,058 ‘Nikshay Mitras’ who have actively supported TB patients.
As part of the central government’s 100-day intensive TB elimination campaign, Gujarat conducted extensive door-to-door screening efforts. By March 20, 75.39 lakh individuals had been screened for tuberculosis in the state, leading to the identification of 1,63,426 new cases that are now undergoing active treatment. Early identification through proactive screening has proven crucial in linking patients to treatment promptly, preventing the disease from worsening and spreading within communities.
