The Gujarat state government conducted a high-level meeting to assess its readiness for anticipated heavy rainfall in various regions. Officials, led by Relief Commissioner Subhash Savaliya, discussed emergency response plans and coordination to minimize any weather-related impacts. Emphasis was placed on achieving “zero casualties” during the monsoon season, with directives for departments to maintain close communication and promptly report emergencies to the State Emergency Operation Centre.
The meeting, held at the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar, focused on preparedness for potential monsoon-related emergencies. The government is closely monitoring weather updates from the India Meteorological Department and implementing necessary measures accordingly. Discussions included satellite imagery and forecasts highlighting areas at risk of heavy rainfall, as well as updates on water levels in reservoirs and dams across the state.
Various departments, including Water Resources, Irrigation, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Roads and Buildings, and Energy, presented their contingency plans. These plans encompassed regulated water releases, deployment of rescue teams, alternative route arrangements in case of road closures, and swift restoration of electricity supply post-disruptions. The coordinated response strategy involved senior officials from multiple departments to ensure preparedness for the upcoming rainy spell.
