Gujarat has reached a significant milestone in renewable energy with the installation of more than 5 lakh rooftop solar systems, creating a total installed capacity of 1,879 megawatts. This achievement, part of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlights Gujarat’s prominence in adopting rooftop solar technology. The state’s success will be a key focus at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot.
The state has also surpassed 11 lakh solar rooftops installed under various programs, solidifying its position as a leader in renewable energy nationwide. Gujarat maintains its top rank in rooftop solar installations, showcasing its commitment to clean energy. It has already achieved half of its target to set up 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027, a significant step in its sustainable energy journey.
Residential consumers in Gujarat have benefited from subsidies totaling Rs 3,778 crore under the scheme, making rooftop solar systems more accessible and cost-effective. The state government has implemented citizen-friendly initiatives to streamline rooftop solar adoption, including financial assistance for regulatory charges, waiving network strengthening fees, and eliminating the need for net metering agreements.
To further incentivize adoption, Gujarat offers attractive subsidy benefits ranging from Rs 18,000 to Rs 78,000 based on the capacity of the solar systems. These measures have enhanced the affordability and convenience of rooftop solar installations for citizens across the state. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized the state’s contribution to India’s renewable energy capacity and credited PM Modi’s vision for enabling Gujarat to lead in solar rooftop schemes.
The success stories of rooftop solar initiatives will be highlighted at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot, showcasing the positive impact of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna in transforming lives and empowering citizens.
