Gujarat has witnessed a significant increase in yoga engagement and infrastructure development ahead of the upcoming ‘International Yoga Day 2026’ on June 21. The state government has emphasized having the “highest number of yoga teachers and organized yoga classes” in the country.
Sheeshpal Rajput, the Chairman of the Gujarat State Yog Board, mentioned that under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Gujarat currently hosts over 4,985 free yoga classes across districts, with an estimated four to five lakh individuals practicing yoga daily. This growth signifies ongoing efforts to incorporate yoga into the daily lives of people across different age groups and professions.
Rajput highlighted that Gujarat now leads in the number of yoga teachers and classes nationwide, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of globalizing yoga. The state has seen a shift where yoga is no longer limited to traditional practitioners but has become a routine for children, youth, professionals, entrepreneurs, government employees, and senior citizens.
The Gujarat State Yog Board reported that more than 1.5 lakh certified yoga trainers have been trained in the past six years, with 750 yoga coaches appointed to ensure structured training and consistent guidance throughout the state. Public engagement has also risen through organized events, with 763 yoga camps in 2026 witnessing participation from over 8.04 lakh citizens and ‘Yoga Samvad’ programs engaging more than 12.17 lakh people since 2020.
