Gujarat welcomed the New Year with a significant wellness initiative where over one lakh individuals participated in Surya Namaskar and meditation at sunrise, setting a healthy tone for 2026. The event, organized by the Gujarat State Yoga Board, had Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Chairman Shishpalsinh virtually present.

The “First Sunray Salutation of the New Year” campaign garnered participation not only from Gujarat but also from people across the country and abroad. Participants, including students and residents, embraced Indian traditions of yoga and solar worship, choosing health-conscious practices over blind imitation of foreign customs.

Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi highlighted the importance of starting the New Year with yoga, pranayama, and Surya Namaskar for physical well-being and mental focus, urging a shift from late-night revelries to early-morning wellness routines. The youth’s enthusiastic involvement reflects a growing awareness of health and cultural values among Gujarat’s new generation.

The event, streamed on the Gujarat State Yoga Board’s YouTube channel, included explanations on the history of Surya Namaskar, Hanumanji’s solar practices, and the exercise’s scientific benefits. It concluded with collective meditation to promote peace, concentration, and mental clarity, with participants receiving digital certificates for their involvement.

Chairman Shishpalsinh expressed gratitude to government bodies and citizens for their support in making the program successful. The initiative sets a strong foundation for a healthy future in Gujarat, emphasizing the state’s dedication to wellness, tradition, and cultural heritage.

Yoga’s role in enhancing physical, mental, and emotional well-being is crucial, offering a holistic approach to health. Regular practice improves body strength, flexibility, and immunity, while techniques like pranayama and meditation reduce stress, enhance focus, and foster emotional balance.

Yoga not only benefits personal wellness but also promotes mindfulness, discipline, and self-awareness, aiding in managing lifestyle-related issues and building resilience against modern challenges. By uniting body, mind, and breath, yoga encourages a harmonious and balanced lifestyle, making it essential in today’s fast-paced world.
