Former Solicitor General of India, Harish Salve, expressed concern over AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s recent letter to Delhi High Court judge Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. Salve stated that such actions amount to intimidating or attacking institutions and trying to act as “prosecution, judge, and jury.” He highlighted a growing trend where some in politics assume the roles of all three entities, disregarding institutional integrity.
Salve emphasized the importance of maintaining faith in the legal system, noting that disagreement with a judgment should lead to proper legal recourse rather than undermining the institution. He criticized the shift towards a person-centric rather than a rule-based order, cautioning against eroding trust in the judiciary by attempting to instill fear or doubt.
In response to Kejriwal’s letter expressing loss of faith in Justice Sharma and invoking “Satyagraha,” Salve warned against tactics that could be perceived as threats or attempts to influence judicial decisions. He underscored the need for respect for due process and the avenues available for challenging legal rulings, rather than resorting to tactics that could undermine the credibility of the judiciary.
