India is at the forefront of digital health and innovative technologies, as stated by Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. Speaking at the seventh annual convocation ceremony of Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital, the Minister encouraged new doctors to maintain a human touch in their medical practice. Patel emphasized India’s focus on digital health and innovative technologies to achieve universal healthcare goals. She congratulated the graduating students, highlighting the importance of public medical institutions in enhancing the country’s healthcare system. Patel underscored the significance of ethical medical practice, compassion, and dedication to serving underserved communities for young doctors. She also noted the advancements in India’s healthcare sector over the past 11 years, including the expansion of medical colleges, AIIMS institutions, and medical seats. Patel mentioned that more than 62 crore people, constituting over 40% of India’s population, are benefiting from free health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY scheme. Additionally, she highlighted initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana and Amrit Pharmacies, offering medical supplies at discounted rates. The convocation ceremony saw the awarding of degrees to over 217 postgraduate students, 136 undergraduate students, and 40 super-specialty students, with 43 students receiving medals for their exceptional performance.
