Indian Railways has set a record in producing General and non-AC coaches with modern amenities to cater to the increasing demand at affordable prices for the common man. The Ministry of Railways stated that there is a robust coach production plan for the current and upcoming financial years to enhance and modernize the passenger fleet.
For the financial year 2025–26, the production target includes 4,838 new LHB GS and Non-AC coaches, while for 2026–27, it aims to produce 4,802 LHB coaches. This production plan is focused on meeting the growing passenger demand while improving safety, comfort, and overall service quality.
Amrit Bharat Express trains, offering fully non-AC services with Sleeper and General Class coaches, are delivering high-quality travel experiences at reasonable fares. In 2025, 13 Amrit Bharat trains were introduced, bringing the total operational services to 30. Additionally, two Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services are now running between Bhuj–Ahmedabad and Jaynagar–Patna, enhancing regional connectivity.
Indian Railways has enhanced ticketing security through Aadhaar verification and advanced technological monitoring to ensure genuine passengers receive confirmed tickets. Only Aadhaar-verified users are permitted to book Tatkal tickets, with technology being leveraged to identify and prevent misuse of the e-ticketing system. As a result, 5.73 crore suspicious and inactive IRCTC user accounts have been deactivated or temporarily suspended, with further actions underway.
Passenger safety remains a top priority, with 84% of funds allocated for safety-related works already utilized under the Gross Budgetary Support outlays for 2025–26. The number of consequential train accidents has significantly decreased over the years, with only 11 reported in 2025-26 (up to November 2025), compared to an average of 171 per year during 2004–14. The safety budget has nearly tripled to Rs 1,16,470 crore in the current financial year, with a substantial increase in fog safety devices.
To manage seasonal and festive rushes, Indian Railways expanded special train operations in 2025, running over 43,000 special train trips, including services for events like Maha Kumbh, Holi, Summer Specials, and Chhath Puja. These operations aimed to facilitate smoother passenger movement and improved travel convenience during peak periods, easing congestion and ensuring timely connectivity.
Indian Railways has identified 76 stations nationwide for developing passenger holding areas, following the successful implementation of the Yatri Suvidha Kendra at New Delhi Railway Station. The New Delhi holding area, accommodating around 7,000 passengers, features amenities like toilets, ticketing facilities, automatic ticket vending machines, and free RO drinking water. The new holding areas, designed based on local conditions, are slated for completion before the 2026 festival season to enhance travel experiences.
