Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen has shared details about the elbow injury he suffered during the Thomas Cup Finals. The injury occurred during a match against Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-chen, where the adrenaline rush initially masked the seriousness of the injury. Sen faces a tight timeline to recover for the upcoming Thailand Open scheduled for May 12-17.
Sen, who played a crucial role in India winning a historic bronze medal, mentioned that his participation in the Thailand Open depends on the results of recent medical scans. Despite sustaining the injury during the Thomas Cup quarterfinals, Sen continued to compete, aiding his team in securing a podium finish. However, he is now being cautious about his immediate playing schedule.
During a press conference organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sen stated that he underwent scans and will consult with the doctor to determine his course of action for the upcoming tournament. He highlighted that the injury, sustained during the match against Chou Tien-chen, was initially unnoticed due to the high adrenaline levels, causing a delay in realizing the severity of the damage.
Sen’s coach observed the elbow during the match but refrained from intervening to maintain Sen’s focus. Post-match, Sen noticed swelling in his elbow, leading to consultations with the medical team. Doctors advised him against further play, warning of potential long-term damage if he continued. Sen expressed his desire to continue representing India but had to sit out subsequent matches after a collective decision with the medical staff.
