Despite rapid digitalization and increased coverage, challenges persist in awareness, standardization, and affordability in India’s health insurance sector. The report by Aon highlights the sector’s digital transformation and broader coverage expansion, emphasizing the need for innovation and partnerships to deliver measurable outcomes.
Telehealth adoption has increased, with 83% of insurers providing services like GP consultations and e-prescriptions. However, the financial impact on outpatient healthcare claims remains limited. Only a third of insurers reported cost savings, with reductions ranging from 1.1% to 1.5%. While telehealth utilization is moderate, some insurers have seen engagement rates over 30% and usage growth between 6% to 10% from 2022 to 2024.
Moreover, employee assistance programs (EAP) availability has grown, with 67% of insurers offering services through various platforms in multiple languages. Despite this, utilization rates vary widely, and growth in EAP usage ranged from 6% to 40% between 2022 and 2024. The report suggests deeper integration and localization for mental health support to enhance sustained engagement and outcomes.
