With just a day remaining for Rajya Sabha nominations, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) in Bihar has not disclosed its candidates, sparking speculation in political circles. Senior JD-U leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary mentioned that the final names would be revealed on Thursday. Choudhary emphasized that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar holds the authority to decide the candidate, highlighting his pivotal role within the JD-U.
Responding to queries regarding Nishant Kumar’s potential party membership, Choudhary hinted at ongoing discussions nearing completion. He expressed widespread support within the party for Nishant Kumar’s official entry, citing his youth and leadership qualities. Speculation is high that Nishant Kumar, Nitish Kumar’s son, might be nominated for the Rajya Sabha, a move long encouraged by party members for his active political involvement.
There are talks suggesting that if Nishant Kumar does not enter the Rajya Sabha, Nitish Kumar himself could pursue a seat, potentially opening avenues for a broader national role. Elections are set for five Rajya Sabha positions from Bihar, with the NDA’s candidate lineup relatively settled. The BJP has already declared Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar Ram as its nominees, while Upendra Kushwaha of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha is the NDA’s fifth candidate.
Despite having 19 MLAs, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) did not secure a seat this time, reportedly causing discontent within certain alliance segments. On the opposition front, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is anticipated to unveil his party’s candidate on March 5.
