Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren faced a setback as a special court, dealing with cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, dismissed his discharge petition related to a case involving 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi’s Badgai area. The court, after considering arguments from both sides, found sufficient grounds to proceed with the case, leading to the rejection of Soren’s plea.
The case revolves around the alleged illegal acquisition of land in Ranchi and subsequent money laundering charges. The Enforcement Directorate, which is probing the matter, has accused Soren based on its investigation findings. Despite Soren’s claims of baseless allegations and lack of concrete evidence, the court upheld the decision to continue with the case.
Following the court’s ruling, the legal process will advance, possibly heading towards trial. While Soren can challenge this order in a higher judicial forum, the case has already seen developments, including Soren’s arrest in 2024 and subsequent interrogations by the ED.
