The National Convenor of J&K Students’ Association (JKSA), Nasir Khuehami, met with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to discuss the safety of Indian students stranded in Iran. Khuehami highlighted the escalating tensions in the region and the concerns of students and their families.
During the meeting at the Raisina Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi, Khuehami expressed the urgent need for the evacuation or relocation of Indian students from Iran due to the deteriorating security situation. He emphasized the anxiety among students and their families amidst ongoing airstrikes and conflict.
Khuehami informed the Foreign Secretary about the widespread panic among students in Iran and the distress of their families back home. He urged the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the stranded students.
The JKSA has been receiving distress calls from parents of Kashmiri students in various Iranian cities. Khuehami stressed the need for prompt intervention and continuous communication with the students to address their fears and ensure their safety. Foreign Secretary Misri assured that efforts were underway to monitor the situation and relocate students from vulnerable areas to safer locations.
Misri affirmed that the government’s priority is the safety of Indian students in Iran. He reassured Khuehami of the ongoing coordination with Iranian authorities and the Embassy of India in Tehran to facilitate the students’ safe return to India. The Association remains hopeful that necessary measures will be taken to protect the students during this challenging time.
