Karnataka BJP President and MLA, B.Y. Vijayendra, has called for Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to apologize to the nation for his vote rigging accusations following the Sringeri recount results. The recount in Sringeri Assembly constituency from the 2023 elections was ordered by the Karnataka High Court, leading to BJP candidate D.N. Jeevaraj being declared the winner over Congress MLA T.D. Rajegowda.
The Sringeri recount issue intensified as a Karnataka BJP delegation met Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to lodge a complaint against Speaker U.T. Khader for delaying Jeevaraj’s oath-taking. Vijayendra emphasized the need for immediate swearing-in of Jeevaraj and criticized the Congress for allegedly undermining democratic principles.
Vijayendra also criticized the Congress for what he termed as hypocrisy, accusing the party of disrespecting constitutional values despite praising Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constitution. He questioned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s prolonged absence during the bypolls in Bagalkot and expressed confidence in the BJP’s leadership to bounce back from recent setbacks.
The BJP leader highlighted the importance of welfare schemes for the poor, citing past initiatives under former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. He alleged that welfare schemes were misused for electoral gains, with funds released strategically before bypolls. Vijayendra affirmed the BJP’s determination to strengthen its organization and regain power in Karnataka with the support of its leaders and workers.
