The Karnataka government has declared a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for the family of Sanket, a Class 10 student who tragically lost his life in an assault in Shivamogga. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed officials to extend financial aid to the grieving family, with Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa making the announcement through Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti. The compensation, totaling Rs 15 lakh, has been allocated from both the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Education Department.
Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil disclosed that seven minors have been apprehended in connection with the incident. Sanket, aged 15 and a resident of Sulebailu, was fatally attacked while trying to defend his friend Girish from a group assault on the outskirts of Shivamogga. The altercation, which culminated in violence, originated from a dispute during a cricket match involving Girish and the accused, escalating over two days.
The tragic event unfolded as the two friends were returning home after a class, with Girish being confronted and assaulted by a group of local boys. Sanket bravely intervened to save his friend but was viciously attacked by the assailants, resulting in severe injuries to his chest, face, and stomach. Despite being rushed to a private hospital, Sanket succumbed to his injuries on the way, as confirmed by the police.
