Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan visited Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, their first meeting since Satheesan took office. This meeting followed discussions between Satheesan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during his two-day visit to the capital. The talks with Shah covered various issues concerning Kerala, such as the state’s financial status, pending central aid, and matters related to the cooperative sector.
The discussions also touched upon internal security coordination and development-related issues. Satheesan’s series of meetings with top Union ministers and the Prime Minister indicate the new Kerala government’s commitment to close coordination with the Centre on administrative and financial issues. Satheesan clarified that these meetings were primarily courtesy calls, being his first visit after assuming office, and assured that he would return fully prepared for future engagements.
Having been sworn in as Chief Minister on May 18, Satheesan’s outreach is significant as Kerala faces financial challenges and seeks increased support from the Union government. Despite political differences between the Congress and BJP, Satheesan’s engagements in Delhi aim to foster smoother Centre-State relations and secure assistance for the state. Photographs from the meeting have been released, and Satheesan is scheduled to return to Kochi later on Wednesday for further engagements in north Kerala and a civic reception in Kozhikode on Thursday.
